Dalrymple, Forrest 'Dal' H. 91 July 01, 1924 July 12, 2015 Forrest "Dal" H. Dalrymple passed away July 12, 2015, after a protracted illness. Dal was a devoted and steadfast husband, beloved father and grandfather, and proud WWII veteran who served as a P-38 fighter pilot in the China/Burma/India Theater. He inspired many young minds during his teaching career with Portland Public Schools at Jefferson and Benson high schools, where he also coached football. A voracious reader, history buff, connoisseur of fine old cars (especially Cadillac convertibles), handyman and scrap metal recycler extraordinaire, Dal was a magnet for small children and animals and a master of the humorous quip. As the quiet, patient and kind patriarch of an appreciative family, he remained strong to the end. The family thanks Maryville Nursing Home, where he spent his final years, for the loving care they provided him, and suggests donations to Maryville in lieu of flowers. Dal is survived by his children, John, Mary, Ann (husband, Jim) and Jean (husband, Jon); grandchildren, Christopher, Kate, Coco and Valerie; great-grandchildren, Julia, Noelle and Elliana; and numerous nieces and nephews. We are happy that he is now reunited with his beloved bride, Josephine, who preceded him in death in 2002. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at St. Agatha's Catholic Church, 7983 S.E. 15th Ave., Portland, with a reception to follow.
